The B.O.B Series: About You

by Caumera James on 13.1.11

I’m back in San Francisco where it’s misty, rainy, gray, and perfect. It saddens me that this is the last time I’ll have flown into SFO to stay for a 5-month period of time. After May, I’m moving back to Los Angeles until I can make my next move. I’ll keep you updated. But enough of this side note and back to BOBS!

In this B.O.B post we’re going to talk about me. No, really: About Me. It’s that little section that you should have on your blog and every other place that you social network. After all, if your readers, followers, and once in a while checkers of all things you and your blog have no knowledge of who you are, what’s keeping them from staying?

I don’t think I need to mention if you’re planning on monetizing your site your future sponsors and advertisers need to see an about page to know for sure that you can represent their company. Most bloggers have an About page or tab: GREAT WORK! This is the first step. Your blogger About Page should include:

+Your Name and Pronunciation: As someone who uses my name as a shtick to go with my Brand, it’s important that my readers can understand that. If your name is adventurous, spell it out for them. It’s the only time you can without making them feel dumb.

+Some History: The past is how you got to your computer and started blogging. Share your drive with your readers. I can only recall 20 times that I’ve gone to the start of a blog to figure out why it was created in the first place… I’m also not exaggerating! Play the blog version of your life story and say it professionally and make it relatable.

+Experience: Throw in some experience in the work places you’re interested in. I mention costuming shows in high school on my “about” page. This way potential sponsors, advertisers, or job seekers know a bit of what you can do.

+Picture: … yeah

+Currently: Tell your readers what you’re doing for a certain period of time. Currently I’m at University. Currently I’m taking a photography class at blah blah. Currently I’m walking dogs to save up money to move to London [that’s not a bad idea…] This allows you to not repeat it in every post. For your hardcore readers, that can get annoying. DON’T FORGET YOUR LOCATION!

A quick tip about your Social Networking About Sections: Whether it’s twitter, lookbook, weardrobe,  facebook fan page, or whatever you’re using to promote your blog, your about section should reflect your blog. This lets people know why they should follow you and check out your blog. DON’T LEAVE THIS BLANK!

And now, 3 About Me Sections I can’t get enough of.Nicolette Mason: the About page on this blog goes hand in hand with traditional biographies. With use of the third person, she steps away from her blog to give you all of the information that you could possibly need. Nicolette Mason provides Easy reading!

Dear Winnie: You’ve got your about the author, you’ve got your about the blog, and you have the behind the blog. 10 points to Gryffindor; everything you need in an about section is here at from Chelsea Rae Simmons at Dear Winnie!

QQueen of Hearts: The fun pictures and font keep it true to Zoë and aesthetic of the blog. You’ll enjoy reading about who she is and what she’s in love with.

Go forth and think all About You until you find the best way to do your about page. Go edit your about sections on your Social Networks. Enjoy!

xx

Aww! Thanks for the ABOUT ME love, Caumera! I honestly struggle to write ABOUT MEs because I never know what’s important. Your tips definitely made me want to add a couple of things to my page.

p.s. Harry Potter better thank me. He’s now 10 points closer to winning that darn Hogwarts Cup because of me. haha!

I know exactly what you mean. I used to leave the About Me section blank and wasn’t getting any new followers. Feel intimidated no more! Haha [I seriously just felt like a superhero... You've inspired me to do a new post!] I hope my tips are helpful.

Independent Fashion Bloggers is such a godsend to all bloggers. Without it, you might not be viewing this page. Such an inspiring group of people all coming together for the purpose of blogging: genius. Thanks for being apart of that with me and thanks for reading. I hope at the end of the b.o.b series it will be a great guide to all!

Greetings, fellow Link Love Lady!

This post couldn’t have come at a better time for me – I’ve just given Mrs Bossa Does the Do a makeover, and want to invest my time in the ‘About Me’ section. Great examples of successful ones; it’s easy to feel that you can’t create this part of your blog in an original way, but you’ve proved otherwise.

I am so glad I found your wonderful blog and this particular entry via Beautifully Invisible’s Link Love with a Twist! I’ve been battling with my About Me page ever since I first took it into my head to compile the darn thing. I love writing, but there’s something different when it comes to writing about *me*. Frankly, it’s much less fun. I never know what to say, when enough is enough, how to make it interesting. Your tips are going to be a huge help in finally making in About page I can be happy with. Lovely post!

Well, Battle no more! Enjoy writing about yourself. Remember that your About You page is ongoing and can be changed whenever you see fit. It’s a process!
